About the Role
This role is part of an engineering organization building intelligent source-to-observables systems. The focus is on scalable backend services and big data pipelines that transform diverse raw inputs into reliable, measurable outputs such as quality signals, coverage indicators, change detection results, operational KPIs, and production-ready datasets.
Working in an Agile environment, the engineer contributes to distributed systems that enhance safety, availability, and operational efficiency of large-scale data processing supporting next-generation navigation and automated driving solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable backend services and distributed data processing pipelines
- Participate in architecture and design discussions, contributing to technical decisions
- Own delivery end to end including development, testing, performance optimization, and production readiness
- Improve code quality through code reviews, automated testing, and engineering best practices
- Contribute to estimation, sprint planning, and iterative delivery within an Agile or Scrum framework
- Mentor engineers, share knowledge, and promote a strong engineering culture
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience building backend systems with strong core Java knowledge
- Solid understanding of data structures, object-oriented programming, and design patterns
- Experience with Big Data and distributed processing, ideally Apache Spark
- Strong experience with relational databases and SQL, preferably PostgreSQL including schema design, query optimization, and indexing
- Practical experience with AWS, preferably EMR or similar managed compute services
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and engineering best practices including testing and automation
- Strong analytical, debugging, and performance optimization skills
- English proficiency at Upper Intermediate level or higher, both written and spoken
- Experience with Scala is considered a plus
- Experience with data transformation or ETL pipelines is considered a plus
- Experience with geospatial or map-related data or large-scale data quality systems is considered a plus
