About the Company

Confidential Data Platform is a technology-driven organization focused on building scalable, production-grade data platforms. The company prioritizes reliability, correctness, and observability in data systems, enabling teams to make informed decisions and power high-stakes analytics across the business.

The company fosters a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning, offering engineers the autonomy to tackle real-world problems at scale while working remotely.

About the Role

The Data Platform Engineer will architect and operate high-load, production-grade data pipelines with an emphasis on correctness, latency, and reliability. The role involves end-to-end ownership of data availability, freshness, and quality, collaborating closely with backend engineers, analysts, and product teams.

This is a fully hands-on individual contributor role with platform-level responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and run high-load, production-grade data pipelines where correctness and latency matter
  • Design systems resilient to schema changes, reprocessing, and partial failures
  • Own data availability, freshness, and trust beyond pipeline success
  • Make decisions balancing accuracy, cost, speed, and consistency
  • Build guardrails to prevent downstream system failures for analysts, product, and operations teams
  • Improve observability with monitoring, alerts, data quality checks, and SLAs
  • Debug incidents, own root cause analysis, and prevent recurring failures
  • Partner closely with backend engineers, data analysts, and product teams for shared ownership

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in data or backend engineering on production systems
  • Strong experience with columnar analytical databases (ClickHouse, Snowflake, BigQuery, or similar)
  • Experience with event-driven or streaming systems (Kafka, Pub/Sub, CDC, etc.)
  • Proficient in SQL and at least one general-purpose programming language (Python, Java, Scala)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think in failure modes
  • Clear communication and ability to explain technical decisions and trade-offs
  • Bonus: Experience rebuilding or fixing a data system that failed in production

Benefits

  • Fully remote work
  • Unlimited vacation and paid sick leave
  • Quarterly performance bonuses
  • Medical insurance for you and your partner
  • Learning budget for courses, conferences, and certifications
  • High trust, high autonomy, and zero bureaucracy
  • Opportunity to work on real engineering challenges in data platforms
