About the Role

The Scala/Spark Data Engineer – AWS role focuses on building and optimizing cloud-based data pipelines and architectures. The position involves developing ETL/ELT processes, managing AWS infrastructure, and collaborating with Data Science and BI teams to ensure data integrity and availability. This role is fully remote within Spain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop ETL transformations using Scala and Apache Spark
  • Create and execute AWS Step Functions and Lambda functions
  • Run and optimize Scala/Spark code on EMR instances to improve performance and reduce costs
  • Manage data infrastructure using Terraform, including Glue catalog, S3, and code artifacts
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain data integrity and availability
  • Document developments and apply best practices in data engineering

Required Skills

  • 1–3 years of professional experience in cloud environments
  • Strong hands-on experience with Scala and Apache Spark
  • Practical knowledge of AWS services: EMR, S3, Step Functions
  • Experience with SQL databases such as SQL Server and Oracle
  • Version control and collaboration using GitHub
  • Infrastructure as code experience with Terraform
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to present technical solutions to senior stakeholders
  • Advanced English (B2+)

Nice to Have

  • Experience with AWS Glue, Redshift, or Data Lake / Lakehouse architectures
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, DevOps, and Agile methodologies
  • Experience with project management tools such as JIRA and Confluence
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and persuasion skills across organizational levels
