About the Role

The Lead Data Platform Engineer role focuses on designing, building, and optimizing large-scale data platforms to enable advanced analytics and data-driven decision-making. The position involves leading technical initiatives, mentoring team members, and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performance data solutions.

Key responsibilities

  • Architecting and maintaining robust, scalable data platforms using modern technologies.
  • Developing and optimizing automated ETL/ELT pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
  • Implementing and managing solutions across cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Utilizing big data frameworks, including Spark, Hadoop, and Databricks, for distributed processing.
  • Designing and optimizing data warehouses using Snowflake and BigQuery.
  • Defining data models, enforcing governance, and ensuring compliance with security standards.
  • Leading technical initiatives and mentoring team members.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, end-to-end data solutions.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering, including leadership or architect-level experience.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, Java or Scala, and SQL.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and data warehousing (Snowflake, BigQuery).
  • Expertise in big data frameworks such as Spark, Hadoop, and Databricks.
  • Proven ability to design and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines and data models.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD practices.
  • Knowledge of data governance, security standards, and compliance (e.g., GDPR).
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and team leadership skills.
  • Fluent in Dutch (C1) and English.
  • Willingness to travel and work at client locations.
