About the Role
Veepee is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Foundation – Infrastructure Development team. The engineer will contribute to several internal infrastructure projects depending on current priorities and business needs.
These projects may include Gaio, the company’s generative AI orchestrator, VeepeeCloud, its private cloud platform designed without vendor lock-in, and other internal infrastructure services.
The engineer will work in a cross-functional team with Site Reliability Engineers, DevOps Engineers, and Product Owners. The codebase includes Rust, Go, and Scala, and the role requires working across these languages as needed.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, operate, and maintain production services across several infrastructure projects.
- Contribute to Gaio, including integrations with LLM providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Gemini.
- Develop consumer APIs and support API request translation and routing.
- Build functionality for LLM usage accounting and consumption metering.
- Handle streaming responses and normalize protocols.
- Contribute to VeepeeCloud services, including compute, storage, DNS, certificate, and network load-balancing APIs.
- Develop and maintain Terraform providers for internal cloud resources.
- Build and maintain command-line clients.
- Participate in architectural discussions and evaluate technical trade-offs.
- Collaborate with SREs on infrastructure and operational decisions.
- Write maintainable, well-tested, production-quality code.
- Participate in support rotations and production incident response.
- Join war rooms during critical production events.
- Conduct code reviews and help maintain engineering quality standards.
- Use AI coding agents as part of the daily development workflow.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional software development experience working on large-scale systems.
- Strong proficiency in Go, Rust, or Scala.
- Willingness to work across Go, Rust, and Scala depending on project requirements.
- Experience working with large databases, including schema design, query optimization, and operational concerns at scale.
- Direct experience with production incident management, support rotations, and war rooms.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong understanding of fault tolerance, observability, scalability, and reliability in distributed systems.
- Experience using AI coding agents as regular productivity tools.
- Ability to learn new technologies, APIs, and technical domains independently.
- Good written and spoken English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional experience with Rust or a strong interest in learning it.
- Experience working with LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini.
- Experience with AI gateways or proxy systems.
- Background in Site Reliability Engineering or platform engineering.
- Open-source contributions.
- Experience with multi-datacenter or hybrid cloud deployments.
