About the Role
The Engineering Manager will lead a high-performing squad dedicated to enterprise and corporate B2B partners. This role combines technical leadership, people management, and hands-on engineering guidance to ensure the delivery of scalable, resilient, and high-quality systems. The position is hybrid and may involve some travel within North America for client meetings.
Responsibilities
- Hire, mentor, and coach a multidisciplinary engineering team, fostering a high-trust, ownership-driven culture
- Partner with product teams to translate partner needs into actionable technical roadmaps
- Lead architectural reviews, unblock complex engineering challenges, and maintain technical excellence
- Oversee the “run” of team services, including on-call rotations, technical debt management, and SLA adherence
- Serve as the primary technical contact for external partners, translating complex technical constraints to non-technical stakeholders
- Drive the development of microservices, distributed systems, and enterprise-grade APIs
- Ensure team alignment with Hopper’s standards for scalability, reliability, and operational excellence
Required Skills
- 2+ years leading engineering teams
- 7+ years of software development experience, preferably with JVM-based languages (Scala, Java) or React
- Strong experience with microservices, distributed systems, and API design for enterprise use
- Ability to work effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments and balance short-term delivery with long-term system integrity
- Proven track record of mentoring and developing engineers from junior to senior levels
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building scalable systems for enterprise B2B clients
- Familiarity with fintech integrations and high-volume transaction systems
- Ability to lead architecture initiatives while maintaining hands-on technical engagement
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
