About the Role

The company is seeking a Scala Data Engineer to build and further develop large-scale data services and pipelines.

The engineer will create algorithms for matching and merging data, identifying anomalies in large datasets, and improving system scalability, efficiency, and simplicity. The role also focuses on reducing data processing times and ensuring that information remains as current as possible.

This is a six-month assignment with the possibility of an extension. The position is based in Malmö, Sweden, with three days per week on-site.

Responsibilities

  • Build and develop large-scale data services and data pipelines using Scala.
  • Create algorithms for matching and merging large datasets.
  • Develop methods for identifying anomalies in data.
  • Improve the simplicity, scalability, and efficiency of existing systems.
  • Optimize systems to support increasing data volumes.
  • Reduce data processing and throughput times.
  • Help ensure that data remains accurate and up to date.
  • Identify opportunities for technical and process improvements.
  • Propose and support automation initiatives.
  • Define requirements for new functionality.
  • Design technical solutions for new features.
  • Share knowledge and support the development of other team members.

Requirements

  • Strong software development and system design skills.
  • Deep knowledge of the JVM.
  • Extensive experience with Scala is preferred.
  • Experience with Spark, Akka, Play, or similar application frameworks.
  • Experience with big data ETL processes.
  • Experience with data streaming.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Ability to work across different responsibilities and contribute where needed.
  • Creative and solution-oriented approach.
  • Ability to work effectively within a technically advanced team.
  • Interest in continuous professional development.
  • Permanent residency in Sweden or willingness to relocate to Sweden.
  • Ability to work on-site in Malmö three days per week.
  • Availability for an immediate start.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with event-streaming technologies such as Kafka.
  • Ability to design and implement APIs and REST services.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases.
  • Knowledge of applying machine learning or artificial intelligence to large datasets.
  • Swedish language skills.
