About the Role
METRO.digital is seeking a Backend Engineer (Scala) to join the Identity and Access Management (IDAM) squad within the Cyber Security platform. The role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining secure, high-performance backend services that manage identity governance, access control, and provisioning workflows across the global retail organization.
The position is open to candidates based in Brasov and Cluj.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Scala-based backend services for identity governance, provisioning workflows, and access management.
- Collaborate with the IDAM squad to develop platform capabilities such as role assignments, entitlement management, and lifecycle automation.
- Work with PostgreSQL data persistence layers to ensure performance, reliability, and correctness.
- Deploy and operate services on Kubernetes.
- Contribute to service reliability, observability, and operational readiness.
- Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and architecture decisions.
- Break down large initiatives into manageable microservices and subprojects.
- Work in an Agile/Scrum environment with product and security stakeholders.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience with Java and/or Scala.
- Experience building backend applications using Scala.
- Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes for automated testing and deployment processes.
- Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform.
- Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL.
- Security-focused mindset when designing and developing applications.
- Interest in designing microservices-based solutions.
- Ability to communicate fluently in English, both written and verbal.
- Curiosity and willingness to learn and adopt new technologies.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Datadog and the Play Framework.
- Experience with authentication and authorization technologies, including JWT, OAuth2, OpenID Connect (OIDC), and role-based access control (RBAC).
- Experience with event-driven architectures such as Kafka.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
