About the Role
A Scala Developer position within Playtech’s GPAS product team. The role involves contributing to the design, development, refactoring, and optimization of a large-scale distributed gaming platform. The system is highly scalable and event-driven, built to support complex gaming operations across global markets. The position requires independent task ownership as well as close collaboration with platform and engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Participate in software design, development, refactoring, support, and code reviews
- Collaborate with platform teams to deliver scalable and high-quality solutions
- Work independently on assigned tasks with minimal supervision
- Optimize platform performance for high throughput and scalability
- Contribute to the development of distributed backend systems for gaming services
- Follow engineering best practices and continuously improve system design and processes
- Document solutions and share knowledge with team members
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in server-side Scala development
- Strong knowledge of Scala (preferably Scala 3) and SBT
- Experience with Akka or Pekko (Actors, HTTP, Clustering, Persistence, Streams)
- Strong understanding of JVM internals, data structures, and algorithms
- Experience with concurrent and parallel programming
- Hands-on experience with distributed systems and complex integrations
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks
- Good communication skills in English
Nice to Have
- Experience in the iGaming industry
- Familiarity with Typesafe Config
- Experience with Couchbase or other NoSQL document databases
- Experience with AWS services such as S3 and DynamoDB
- Knowledge of Play JSON
- Experience with ScalaTest
- Familiarity with Docker, Nomad, or Kubernetes
- Experience working in Linux environments
