About the Role
The position focuses on backend and database-heavy development with a mix of legacy system support and modernization work. The developer will work across multiple technologies, contributing to both existing enterprise systems and the transition toward newer technology stacks.
The role requires a practical engineering mindset, strong ownership of tasks, and the ability to work independently within a distributed global team.
Responsibilities
- Development and maintenance of backend systems using Java EE and Scala
- Working with relational databases, especially DB2
- Writing and optimizing SQL queries and database logic
- Supporting ETL processes and data workflows
- Contributing to software modernization initiatives
- Collaborating in Agile development cycles
- Participating in system design and implementation tasks
- Working across Linux and Windows environments
- Using modern SDLC practices including BDD and TDD
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of RDBMS and SQL
- Hands-on experience with DB2 database development
- Experience with Java EE frameworks such as Spring and build tools like Gradle
- Exposure to Scala
- Familiarity with ETL processes
- Experience working in Linux and Windows environments
- Understanding of object-oriented programming principles
- Experience with Agile methodologies and SDLC practices
- Familiarity with BDD and TDD approaches
- Strong communication skills in written and verbal form
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively
- Willingness to learn and contribute to modernization initiatives
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Python or other scripting languages
- Experience in the financial services industry
- Familiarity with JIRA and Agile ceremonies
- Knowledge of Jenkins
- Understanding of Data Warehouse and Data Lake concepts
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as VS Code extensions or GitHub Copilot
