The role is part of a partnership with a major UK energy company undergoing a large-scale transformation focused on building modern, greenfield systems for energy and fintech-related domains. The organisation is expanding its presence in Lithuania and investing in cloud-native, API-driven architecture.
About the Role
A Backend Engineer with strong Scala experience is sought to join an autonomous agile product team working on a major transformation programme. The team is responsible for building API-first services as part of a new target architecture supporting energy trading, payments, and exports.
The role involves working in a distributed international setup with colleagues in Lithuania and the UK, contributing to scalable customer-facing systems in a fast-paced environment.
There is also exposure to additional technologies such as TypeScript and Node, as well as modern cloud and infrastructure tooling.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend services using Scala
- Build API-first services as part of a new target architecture
- Contribute to greenfield development of customer-facing systems
- Work with event-driven and distributed architectures
- Collaborate with engineering, mobile, DevOps, and data teams
- Participate in CI/CD-driven development using cloud-native tooling
- Support infrastructure and deployment processes using Terraform and Kubernetes
- Work within Agile product teams to deliver roadmap features
- Contribute to development process improvements and system scalability
- Take ownership of code from development through to production
Requirements
- Strong experience in backend or full-stack development
- Strong knowledge of Scala
- Experience with Typelevel stack, including Cats, Cats Effect, Http4s, or FS2
- Experience with Kafka or event-driven architecture
- Experience or interest in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
- Experience working with cloud platforms such as GCP or AWS
- Experience designing or consuming APIs
- Experience working in fast-paced product or growth environments
- Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal
- Ability to take ownership of production code
- Familiarity with Test Driven Development is beneficial
